Use a container (large enough for 6-8 cups of cold water) with a lid.  Fill with cold water and a little detergent (and some people add a little Oxy Clean or hydrogen peroxide). Put used pads in the container until the end of your cycle.  Wash in a cold water cycle first then follow with a hot cycle. For stains you can use full strength hydrogen peroxide on the pads - wait for 10 minutes then rinse out.
