FITTED CLOTH DIAPERS
Fitted Diapers are the absorbent inner diaper that goes under a diaper cover. They generally close with snaps or aplix, though some fitted diapers (usually called contours) require a pin or Snappi for closure. All fitted diapers require a cover to make them waterproof.
Fitted diapers are made up of several layers of absorbent material, which is sometimes synthetic, or sometimes cotton, bamboo, hemp, or a blend of natural fibers. Some fitted diapers use luxuriously soft materials like velour and minkee, and fitteds are also available in all sorts of adorable prints. Fitted diapers generally take longer to dry than a prefold or flat diaper, but they require no folding techniques and are easier to learn to use.
The main job of the fitted diaper is to absorb your baby’s output, so you want to get the fitted with the right absorbency for your baby. Most fitted diapers will keep moisture next to your baby’s skin unless you use a fleece liner to avoid this.
A system of fitted diapers and covers is generally less expensive than an All-in-One or Pocket system.
For a newborn, you'll need 24-36 total cloth diapers to wash every other day. An older baby and toddler use less diapers a day, so you'll need between 16-24 cloth diapers for your older baby and/or toddler. With fitted cloth diapers, you'll also need diaper covers.
