Frequently Asked Choosing Questions

Help! I'm brand new to slings. Where should I start?

Visit "All About Slings" to get started. You'll learn the basic sling types, how to choose for infant, older baby or toddler and much more!

What should I get for my new baby?

A stretchy wrap is a great choice for a new baby! It's so comfortable to wear, simple to use and the stretch makes it easy to wrap with. It's cuddly and baby can be positioned in various positions. A ring sling works really well with a new baby as it can be adjusted to to fit nicely around you and your new baby.

I'm short in time! What is the easiest to use?

I hear you! As a busy mom myself, I understand the need to have a sling that is easy to use from day one. I recommend a Beco Baby Carrier for this reason. It's simple to use. You simply buckle it on and tighten it as needed to fit you and your baby.

Can I nurse in a sling?

Yes! I've nursed in all kinds of slings. The easiest for me to nurse in is a ring sling, like the Sakura Bloom ring sling. It's easy to adjust the ring sling as needed to position the baby for nursing. And the tail of the ring sling comes in very handy as a nursing cover when needed. Another option is either a stretchy wrap or a woven wrap. Baby can be positioned in various ways for comfortable easy nursing.

I'm a petite mama. What do you recommend for me?

As a petite mama you need a sling that will fit you well and not feel overwhelming your frame. With a short woven wrap, such as a Neobulle woven wrap or a Girasol woven wrap, you will be able to carry your child in various carries, yet the fabric will not feel overwhelming because it's short. A Beco Baby Carrier also works great with petite mamas.

What can I use with my heavy baby?

With a heavy baby you need as much support and weight distribution as possible. The top choice for this is a woven wrap such as a Neobulle woven wrap. It provides the most support and weight distribution. The weight of a heavy baby seems to disappear in woven wrap! Another option is a buckle carrier (don't think Bjorn as it's nothing like a Bjorn or Snugli). It has similar comfort and has a shorter learning curve. I've used Beco Butterfly II with my heavy toddler (and preschooler too!) and have found it to be quite comfortable to wear.

What's the best for dad to use?

Most dads enjoy wearing baby carriers with buckle closures. It's usually a top favorite for dads! For this, I recommend a Beco Baby Carrier, Boba, or Scootababy. Comes in various prints and I'm sure there will be one he is willing to wear. :) It is easy to use and fits most sizes.

I'm a large size mama. What would work best for my size?

There are lots of options for you! One is a Beco Butterfly II which fits a variety of sizesa and framesl. Another option is a ring sling, like the Sakura Bloom ring sling, which can also be adjusted to fit you and your child. And a long woven wrap such as Neobulle woven wrap and Girasol woven wrap provides you with ultimate comfort and are available in a variety of lengths, so there will be at least one length that will fit you well.

My child is 2 years old, is it too late to wear her?

Not at all too late! My 2 year old will often ask to be carried and there have been times that even my 4 year old will ask me to carry her in a sling. For times when I am carrying my older children, I grab a Kozy mei tai. It's got a good size body, so fits well for older children and it provides excellent support and comfort.

I need something for both me and my partner. What can we both use?

My top recommendations for you are the BabyHawk Mei Tai and the Beco Baby Carrier, Boba  or Scootababy buckle carrier. These are easy to use and can be worn comfortably by more than one care giver. And both are favorites with dads!

My baby is so wiggly! What will work best for us?

With a wiggly baby, you need something that you can put on quickly and that will hold your wiggler securely against you. A mei tai or a buckle carrier will achieve this for you. Both are quick and easy to put on (leaving little time for your baby to wiggle) and because of their supportive panel, your little one will be held safely against you. Either one works great for wiggly babies that tend to want to plunge out of slings!
