The Matching Game

As a homeschooling family, I try to find ways to educate my young kids through play. I’m currently homeschooling a kindergartner and a preschooler, so I also try to find ways that they both enjoy and can do together. One afternoon we learned math through a fun matching game that they both really enjoyed. Homeschooling or not, this game is one you can play with your child and have a great time learning math in a way that keeps it fun.

The Matching Game

I went around my kitchen and collected 2 of each of miscellaneous items that I found in there. I had beans, toothpick, paper clips, cut up some paper shapes, even grabbed a couple of almonds and other items.

I then took a construction paper and folded it in half to create a crease and wrote their names on each side. Then I laid out all the items on the table. I had them also sit next to each other and then the game began. Okhan started the game by placing one item at a time on his paper and Lora then followed by placing her items the same way and around the same place on her paper. After he was done, then it was Lora’s turn and they continued back and forth. I think they did about 4-5 rounds before they moved on to something else.

It was fun and in this game, they learned math that day! If you end up trying it, let me know how it goes. :)
