my favorite eco-beauty gem

I first met Jean Seo, owner of Evolue, at the book signing of our friends Lisa and Ron’s book,  “Just Green It!”.  And since then I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her more and also visiting Evolue in Beverly Hills. The moment I walked in…I fell in love. It’s zen-like and it was obvious there’s only the best eco-beauty products.  I felt at ease to look, touch, feel and try the various products…and I took my time browsing and trying on products until I found the ones I wanted the most. It was such a welcoming experience that I wish I could’ve stayed hours and hours.

I’ve always been a “just the basics” girl and especially now as a busy mom of three.  And Jean has become my go-to resource for eco-beauty. I know that I can trust her products to be easy to use and good for me too! With a degree in library science, Jean is an expert at hand-selecting products for Evolue that are non-toxic, eco-friendly and meet the high-standard of quality that Evolue is known for.  And she’s somewhat of a pioneer – Jean was the store manager of  Los Angeles’ first eco-beauty store, Vert. After Vert closed, Jean took the concept to the next level by offering a unique eco-beauty experience through Evolue.

Recently, I got the chance to interview Jean and learn more about Evolue and also get eco-beauty tips.

gb – Evolue is such a unique name – what does it mean?

js – Evolue means “evolved” in French.  Since the first shop on Abbot Kinney was called Vert (which means green) and it evolved from there, I called it Evolue.  I also meant that since everyone now knows “green” is good, I wanted to take it to the next level of green which is how green does a woman want to be? Natural, All natural, organic, biodynamic, and so forth.

gb – So, what exactly is eco-beauty?

js – Eco-Beauty to me is being beautiful without harming yourself with harmful chemicals or the environment, and living a clean beautiful life.

gb – What are your favorites at Evolue?

js – Ooooo… So many… The RMS Living Luminizer is my best seller, and also the most incredible highlighter created by Rose-Marie Swift, the perfectionist makeup artist for Victoria’s Secret Angels and Louis Vuitton catalogs.  Also the Jane Iredale Pure Pressed powder covers everything, looks natural, and provides SPF 20.

gb – Let’s say I’m a new mom, barely have 5 minutes to spend on my face…what would you recommend to me?

js – Tracie Martyn’s Amla Cleanser – it cleans, tones, and lightly moisturizes all in one.  Can’t really beat that, especially perfect for summer.

gb – What’s in your make-up bag?

js – My makeup bag? Oh dear… Hahahaha.  Jane Iredale PurePressed powder, RMS Living Luminizer, Jane Iredale So-Bronze 1 bronzer, Ilia Lip conditioning Lipstick, W3LL People eyeshadow for liner, RMS Eyeshadow in Solar (BEAUTIFUL gold), and Jane Iredale Black Onyx mascara.

To keep up-to-date with Jean and Evolue, please “like” the Evolue Facebook Page. I’ll see you there!

All of the products (and more) mentioned on this post are also available at Evolue.

Update ~ Evolue is offering a sale through No More Dirty Looks that lasts all this week! And it’s a very very very good one. Check it out here.
